Ganesha Chaturthi , also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi is the Hindu festival of Ganesha, the son of Shiva and Parvati, who is believed to bestow his presence on earth for all his devotees in the duration of this festival. It is the birthday of Ganesha who is widely worshipped as the god of wisdom, prosperity and good fortune.
The festival is observed in the Hindu calendar month of Bhaadrapada, starting on the shukla chaturthi (fourth day of the waxing moon period). The date usually falls between 20 August and 15 September. The festival lasts for 10 days, ending on Anant Chaturdashi (fourteenth day of the waxing moon period).

While celebrated all over India, it is most elaborate in western and southern India. Outside India, it is celebrated widely in Nepal and by Hindus in the United States, Canada and Fiji.

Puja On Ganesha Chaturthi

It is generally preferable to do Ganesha puja on the Chaturthi day at the noon, however you can perform the pooja as per your wish whenever all the members of your family are present. In order to carry on the pooja, you will require following items- A Clay image of Lord Ganesha, flowers, druva grass blades, sweets (preferably Modak), coconut, sandalwood paste and incense sticks. The Pooja begins with the establishment of idol on a higher platform and giving it a bathe with Panchamrit. You can now pray to Lord Ganesh and recite all the mantras or bhajans dedicated to Lord Ganesha. You now have to invoke Lord Ganesha through your prayers and bring life in the idol. The mantra for this can be found in the in the Rig Veda and is part of Ganesh Suktha.

Ganesh Visarjan
Ganesh Visarjan is done on 9th day from starting of ganesh chaturthi. For the visarjan ganesh ji idol is taken to a water body with lot of people accompnying , dancing and singing and then the idol is immersed in the water body.

How to Perform Ganesh Chaturthi Pooja At Home

Celebrated for 1 ½, 5, 7 or 10 days, Bappa arrives home as a guest and is appeased in the duration of his stay with his favourite foods, choicest decorations and Pujas or prayers as per vidhi.

  1. A clay image of Lord Ganesha (hopefully an eco-friendly idol)
  2. Red Flowers
  3. Modaks and assorted sweets like Pedhas / Karanjis – These are generally made at home for ‘Prasad’ on an empty stomach or Upwaas
  4. Coconut
  5. Chandan or Sandalwood
  6. Incense Sticks
  7. Choice of fruits
  8. A moda / stool or raised platform to place Bappa.
  9. Sweet made of Pancha Khadya (Ganesha’s favourite) – Dates, Rasins, Powdered Sugar, Poppy seeds (Khus Khus) and Coconut
  10. Decorations for the platform with cloth, lights etc
ON THE DAY YOU WELCOME GANESHA
Clean whole house and get ready to bring home Ganesha with fervor among family and friends. Once the idol is home, recite Ganesh Shlokas and pray to the Lord to be welcome in your humble abode.
PRAN-PARTISHTHA
You can chant a series of shloks from the Rig Veda to invoke the Lord into the idol. They are in Sanskrit and are a part of the Ganesh Suktha.
ganananh tva ganapatim havamahe kavim kavinam – upamashravastamam
jyeshhtharajam brahmanan.h brahmanaspata A nah shrivnvannutibhih sida sadanam
ni shhu sida ganapate ganeshhu tvamahurvipratamam kavinam
na rite tvat.h kriyate kinchanare mahamarkam maghavan.h chitramarcha
After this, you can start making your offerings to Ganesha. Start by lighting the auspicious lamp. Offer 21 blades of Druva, 21 Modaks, 21 of the sweet you make from Panch Khadya, assorted fruits and flowers.
Apply Tilak and then break the coconut (it should ideally split in the middle) and also make offerings of various grains to Mooshik. You can then recite the 108 names of Lord Ganesha followed by the Ganesh Aarti and distribution of Prasad among devotees.

About 15th August

The Independence Day of India, celebrated on 15 August, is a holiday commemorating India's independence from the British rule and its birth as a sovereign nation on 15 August 1947. India achieved independence following the Indian independence movement noted for largely peaceful nonviolent resistance and civil disobedience led by the Indian National Congress. The independence coincided with the partition of India wherein the British Indian Empire was divided along religious lines into two new nations—Dominion of India (later Republic of India) and Dominion of Pakistan (later Islamic Republic of Pakistan); the partition was stricken with violent communal riots.
The Independence Day is a national holiday in India. The flagship event takes place in Delhi where the Prime Minister hoists the national flag at the Red Fort, followed by a nationally broadcast speech from its ramparts. The day is observed all over India with flag-hoisting ceremonies, parades and cultural events. Citizens rejoice the day by displaying the national flag on their attire, household accessories, vehicles; varied activities such as kite flying, bonding with family and friends, and enjoying patriotic songs and films are seen.

Marriage Tips for Women, Marriage Tips for Newly weds, Best Marriage Advice woman, female, Happily ever after Marriage, Funny Marriage tips for women, ladies, Indian woman

1. Remember who you are - Yes, you are a wife, but you are also an individual with your own interests and dreams. Retaining as much of ‘you’ as you can and not losing yourself entirely in the ‘we’ will help you keep your marriage fresh and exciting.

2. Do things together and do things separately - Have experiences that are yours as a couple and yours as an individual. Maybe you have a date night together as well as a girls’ night out for you and a poker night for him.

3. Focus on what you love about your husband - What you focus on expands, so if you concentrate only on his negative qualities, they’ll start to overtake your vision of him.

4. Accept your husband for who he is - Loving your husband exactly as he is, faults and all, can free you from a lot of pain and suffering caused by unrealistic expectations of who you think he should be. Nobody is perfect, and you inevitably do things that drive him nuts just like he does you. Besides, what you see as his faults may very well complement you and keep you balanced.

5. Keep your sexual relationship a priority - Sex is very important to men. They view it as a way to connect and be close with their partner. So make time for intimacy, and if problems in the bedroom crop up, address them.

6. Spend time together as a family - Research shows that the one thing that consistently makes us happy above all else is spending time with the people we love.

7. Communicate with your husband - Misunderstandings often stem from a lack of communication. By sharing how you feel, not only will you understand each other better, you can prevent anger and resentment from building up.

8. Get counseling if necessary – Marriage counselors, therapists and psychics can salvage troubled marriages and make working ones even better by giving you tools to strengthen your marriage and foster communication.

9. Don’t compare your marriage or your husband to others - What you see on the outside isn’t always what goes on behind closed doors. Maybe Brenda’s husband does the dishes every night, but he can’t relate to his children nearly as well as your husband can.

10. Avoid the temptation to create drama to ‘keep things exciting’ - You entered into a lifelong commitment with your husband, and life isn’t always action-packed and filled with craziness. Marriage might feel monotonous or even a little boring sometimes, and that’s okay. It’s still worth it.

11. Try to avoid being completely dependent financially - Though working while you have small children can be difficult, there are creative ways to make money that you may not think of at first glance, like teaching art or giving cooking or writing lessons to children. By contributing monetarily, you’ll give your self-esteem a boost as well as the family finances.

12. Be your husband’s biggest fan - You and your husband are a team. If you constantly complain about him to your friends, you weaken that bond and can start to forget that you’re both on the same side.

13. Don’t fight dirty - In the heat of the moment, you can say things you don’t mean. And even if you apologize afterward, your words will stick in your husband’s head. So keep low blows off the table, and argue with kindness and compassion as much as you can.

14. Continue thinking of yourself as a woman – You may get so caught up in the role of ‘Mom’, ‘chauffeur’ or ‘employee’ that you forget you are also a beautiful woman, with feminine powers and wisdom to draw from. Reveling in your femininity and taking time to feel good about your appearance can help you feel good in your marriage as well.

15. Realize that marriage isn’t always 50/50 - Sometimes your husband will need you to put in 75% of the effort, and other times, you’ll need him to put forth 90%. And isn’t that kind of the beauty of marriage, that you’ll always have someone to count on no matter what?

Date: 27th August 2014, Sunday
About Janmashtami:
Krishna Janmashtami (Lord Krishna's Birth day) (Devanagari कृष्ण जन्माष्टमी kṛṣṇa janmāṣṭami), also known as Krishnashtami, Saatam Aatham, Gokulashtami, Ashtami Rohini, Srikrishna Jayanti, Sree Jayanti or sometimes merely as Janmashtami, is a Hindu festival celebrating the birth of Krishna, an avatar of the god Vishnu.
Krishna Janmashtami is observed on the Ashtami tithi, the eighth day of the dark half or Krishna Paksha of the month of Bhadra in the Hindu calendar, when the Rohini Nakshatra is ascendant. The festival always falls within mid-August to mid-September in the Gregorian calendar. In 2010, for example, the festival was celebrated on 1 September, and in 2011 on 22 August in North India and on 21 August in South Indian states like Kerala.
Rasa lila, dramatic enactments of the life of Krishna, are a special feature in regions of Mathura and Vrindavan, and regions following Vaishnavism in Manipur. While the Rasa lila re-creates the flirtatious aspects of Krishna's youthful days, the Dahi Handi celebrate God's playful and mischievous side, where teams of young men form human pyramids to reach a high-hanging pot of butter and break it. This tradition, also known as uriadi, is a major event in Tamil Nadu on Gokulashtami.
How do Hindus celebrate Janmashtami? The devotees of Lord Krishna observe fast for the whole day and night, worshipping him and keeping vigil through the night while listening to his tales and exploits, recite hymns from the Gita, sing devotional songs, and chant the mantra Om namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya.
Krishna's birthplace Mathura and Vrindavan celebrate this occasion with great pomp and show. Raslilas or religious plays are performed to recreate incidents from the life of Krishna and to commemorate his love for Radha.
In the south western state of Maharashtra, people enact the god's childhood attempts to steal butter and curd from earthen pots beyond his reach. A similar pot is suspended high above the ground and groups of young people form humans pyramids to try and reach the pot and break it.
Tips on how to celebrate Janmashtami at home:
  • Invite all your friends and family to participate in the festivities.
  • Decorating your home for Krishna can be fun, particularly for children. Encourage them in helping to make garlands, hanging balloons and festoons of leaves, and generally making the house beautiful for Krishna’s appearance.
  • Get a copy of the Vaishnava Songbook and choose some of your favorite bhajanas(devotional songs in praise of God) to sing.
  • You can also chant extra rounds of the Hare Krishnamaha-mantra on your japa mala (prayer beads). This is an intimate one on one exchange with Krishna, and makes you feel much closer to the Lord.
  • Read the story of Krishna’s advent and other exciting pastimes from Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead or Srimad Bhagavatam, Canto Ten.
  • If you have Radha-Krishna deities, get extra special new outfits for them. Exercise your creativity and pay special attention to decorating their altar.
  • Recreate the temple program and hold an abhisheka bathing ceremony for your deities. Simply buy different liquids like yogurt, honey, ghee and fruit juices and bathe the deity with them while singing devotional songs.
  • Temples prepare at least one hundred and eight different food dishes on Janmashtami.
  • Have a midnight arati (worship ceremony) with a kirtan. This is the exact time that Krishna appeared on this planet, so it is most auspicious and spiritually inspiring.

Payal Singhal showcases collection "India in Colour" on the first day of LFW Winter Festive 2012.  A brief look of the mystical Rajasthan to shades of the North and then tones of the East, designer Payal Singhal's collection for the LFW Winter Festive 2012 encompassed Indian drama and more.

Her price range: Rs 20,000 to a lakh
Jatin Varma and Vizyon collections veered towards the gothic.  Varma Dark Angels collection consisted of a series of gowns and short dresses that had elements such as power shoulders, feathers, chains, brass and sequin embroidery and felt appliqu work. The plunging backs, extended shoulders and body con silhouettes in deep shades might have been high on drama but lacked the extraordinary element.
Vizyon Enlightened Shadows was inspired by poems on the dark and the enchanting.

Motifs and embellishments included butterfly wings, spider webs and beetle shells on dresses with cut- out details, layered origami and ruffles. The last few dresses might have been the saving grace for an otherwise average collection.

Ritu Beri collection had a surfeit of ruffles, frills and flounces. Her collection Icons of Luxury was inspired by vintage fifties glamour as she tried to recreate the era with a twist. However, the voluminous gowns, heavy lace and flower embellishment, crochet bonnets, trailing sleeves, peplum jackets, faux fur shrugs and ballerina dresses looked better suited for the runway than the red carpet.
Secondly, the denim rompers, lehenga s teamed with bikinis, floor- length lace coats, jumpsuits and lace- layered floor- sweeping ensembles seemed rather outdated and out of place.

Pallavi Jaikishan showcased saris, anarkali s and lehenga s. Her trademark flower motif, floral designs and authentic zari embroidery complemented the pastel colour palette.

Anushka Khanna, Felix Bendish and Isabelle Mittal presented their collections at the Usha talent Box show. Inspired by mosaic work, Khanna collection, Floral Fragments, was a blend of renaissance art and Victorian romanticism.

Felix Bendish created quite a stir with his Swarovski crystal, feather and sequin pieces, while Isabelle Mittal label Izi had The Midas Touch, and showcased an Indian collection inspired by Greek draping styles.
Attending Khanna show, actress Kareena Kapoor and film- maker Karan Johar pro- vided the glamour quotient for the day.

Haryana minister Gopal Kanda accused of abetting former air hostess' suicide resigns

Geetika Sharma allegedly committed suicide over continuing mental harassment allegedly by Kanda.
Haryana's controversial Minister of State for Home Gopal Kanda, blamed by a former flight attendant for driving her to suicide, submitted his resignation to Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda in New Delhi on Sunday evening.
The resignation came just hours after Kanda was booked for abetment to suicide by the Delhi Police after a former flight attendant, Geetika Sharma, committed suicide in New Delhi on Sunday. She had, in her suicide note, accused him of harassing her which led to her suicide.
"I have submitted my resignation to the chief minister today evening after he returned from Kolkata. I was waiting for him (Hooda) to return to submit my resignation," Kanda told reporters in Gurgaon, near New Delhi."I will come out clean in this. There is nothing against me. I have submitted my resignation so that there is no interference in this matter. The law will take its own course," Kanda said. In her suicide note, the victim blamed Kanda for breaking her trust, police said, adding that a case of abetment to suicide had been registered against him. Kanda owned the MDLR Airlines where Sharma worked as a flight attendant. After the airline ceased to function in 2009, Sharma was given a job in another company owned by Kanda.
According to the victim's brother, Gaurav Sharma, his sister was being constantly being mentally harassed by Kanda and his colleague Aruna Chadha.
"My sister quit her job and decided to work with Emirates and had gone for training in Dubai but Kanda wrote to them accusing my sister of having  bad character which led to her termination," he told reporters.
She was being asked by Kanda to join his company again, added Sharma.

The 22-year-old Saina was trailing 18-21, 0-1 in the high-voltage bronze medal play-off match when her second seeded opponent Xin Wang retired hurt, giving India an unexpected medal without having to sweat much. Saina also became the second Indian woman to win an Olympic medal, after Karnam Malleswari`s weightlifting bronze in 2000 Sydney Olympics.
With the addition of Saina`s bronze, India`s medal collection in the ongoing Olympics has gone upto three with pistol shooter Vijay Kumar (silver) and seasoned marksman Gagan Narang (bronze) being the other medal winners.
The packed Wembly arena, which had a seizable chunk of vociferous Indian supporters cheering for Saina, were taken by surprise when the script suddenly changed with Wang getting injured towards the very end of the first game.
"I still can`t believe that I have won a medal. In badminton, I never believed that India could win a medal because the competition is so tough. It is a dream come true for me," Saina said after the match.
"I had trained hard and there was a lot of expectation. I initially thought that she was just taking rest as she was tiring, but then I realised she was injured. It`s sad that she got injured, but I was confident of beating her as I was coming into rhythm," she said.
Saina said her defeat against top ranked player Yihan Wang of China yesterday was still rankling her as she had adopted a wrong strategy against her.
"Today`s match was crucial. But I was still thinking about what happened on friday. But as the game went, I began to play better. I felt that she was tiring and I had my chance," the ace shuttler said.
