Five things to know about the ICC World Cup 2015.

Melbourne: The Cricket World Cup, held every four years to decide the sport's one-day international championship, will be held in Australia and New Zealand in February and March 2015. Here are five things to know about the tournament that will conclude with a March 29 final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in front of an expected 100,000 spectators and a worldwide television audience of 1 billion:

 

THE TEAMS AND THE MAYBES: The 14-team tournament gathers the 10 Test-playing countries: Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, West Indies and Zimbabwe. Ireland has qualified, while three others teams will also attempt to qualify, possibly Scotland, Netherlands, Kenya or Canada based on current rankings and results.

IPL Scandal: BCCI probe panel termed illegal by High Court.

The Bombay High Court (HC) has termed BCCI's probe panel -that investigated the IPL spot fixing scam- as illegal and unconstitutional. This decision by HC is seen as a major set back for N. Srinivasan who was set to return as BCCI President on the basis of the probe panel's findings.

BCCI's probe panel set up by the cricket control body to look into the allegations of spot fixing in the IPL season had virtually gave a clean chit to N. Srinivasan's son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan. The Mumbai Police arrested Meiyappan in the spot fixing case after he was named by one of the co-accused Vindoo Dara Singh.

India start 2015 World Cup against Pakistan, final on March 29.

India will launch their title defence against traditional rivals Pakistan in Adelaide, while New Zealand face Sri Lanka in Christchurch and Australia meet England in Melbourne on the opening day of ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 to be jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand from February 14 to March 29.

India, who won the 2011 edition of the World Cup after a gap of 28 years have been grouped with South Africa, Pakistan, West Indies, Zimbabwe and Ireland and a yet to be decided Qualifier 4. The No.1 ranked ODI team would take on Pakistan on February 15 and South Africa on February 22, followed by Qualifier 4 in Perth on February 28, West Indies in Perth on March 6, Ireland in Hamilton on March 10 and Zimbabwe on March 14.
