Supreme Court to decide on women’s right to dance in bars.

9 May 2013, New Delhi: The Supreme Court today reserved its decision on the constitutionality of the ban on dance performances in bars in Maharashtra imposed under the Bombay Police (Amendment) Act of 2005. Introduced in August 2005, section 33A of the Bombay Police Act prohibited ‘any type of dancing’ in an “eating house, permit room or beer bar” while section 33B allowed dance performances in three star and above hotels and other ‘elite’ establishments. The ban was immediately contested by bar owners and dancers’ unions. On 12 April 2006, the Bombay High Court struck it down on the grounds that the prohibition on dancing violated the right to carry on one’s profession/occupation under Article 19(1)(g) of the Constitution.

Women pack more than what they wear for holidays.

The average woman only wears a third of what they pack in their holiday suitcase, a new study has found. Overpacking before heading abroad is a common mistake made by millions, and women are the worst culprits taking home unworn around two thirds of the clothes they packed. The study by Debenhams found the average woman needs 57 items for a two-week trip, although many pack three times as much. Nearly 80 per cent of 1,000 women questioned admitted taking extra items. A third said they were caught out by excess baggage charges due to overenthusiastic packing, the 'Daily Express' reported.

In February that year, Park Street, Kolkata, irrefutably one of India’s most liberated downtown spaces, became the crucible for a brutal gang rape.

Rise in South Indian women going abroad for jobs, Indian women , Women, Women in india.

CHENNAI: The number of women workers from South India going abroad, especially to countries in the Persian Gulf for want of jobs, has been steadily increasing in the last five years, according to the ministry of overseas Indian affairs.
In 2008, 519 women got their clearance from Protector of Emigrants (PoE) office, Chennai, which monitors the below matriculation qualified workers from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Puducherry.
It said 957 women got clearance in 2009 and another 1,363 women in 2010, adding that the numbers further went up in 2011 with 1,981 women leaving the country abroad for jobs.

In 2012, though only 1,534 women went abroad, it is not considered less, since the total number of persons leaving the country itself was low, a Ministry official said. A total of 490 women have left for the Gulf this year alone till June this year.

"The increase of women going abroad only means that women are choosing the legal channels of getting a job. Earlier, there were illegal ways of agents recruiting them and they would sometimes be cheated after reaching there."

"Following the awareness campaigns we have been organising in all these states women are now aware that they need to register and go through the POE channel for their jobs," Protector of Emigrants (PoE) Chennai D Jai Sankar told .

POE Office gives workers below the qualification of matriculation an 'Emigration Check Required (ECR)' stamp on the candidates' passports, facilitating their travel abroad, after checking the authenticity of job agents, who have landed them jobs abroad.

Horrific death of the young Indian nurse ,indian women, women, News of Indian Women, Women's News.

Horrific death of the young Indian nurse who had acid flung in her face as she waited on a train platform
Preeti Rathi died last Saturday following an acid attack at a Mumbai train station
An Indian woman who was the victim of an acid attack as she stood at a Mumbai train station has died from her injuries.
Preeti Rathi was targeted as she stood alongside her father Amar Singh Rathi at the station on May 2.
She had travelled to the city to take up a coveted position as a military nurse, beating thousands of other candidates.
The attack left the 24-year-old blinded and disfigured and she was unable to speak before dying last weekend.
Ms Rathi was attacked by a man who was wearing a cap and scarf and her family told a newspaper they believed the attacker could have been hired to follow her.
'We feel it has something to do with jealousy about her job. It could be someone from within her friends’ circle or our neighbourhood,' her father, 57, told the newspaper.
Now her family is demanding that India's Criminal Investigation Bureau hold an inquiry into her death.
In an online petition, her father described his daughter's state following the attack.
He wrote: 'She suffered severe injuries on her face and internal organs.
'Her eyes were damaged, her liver and kidneys got infected and she endured crucifying pain for almost a month.
Mumbai officers arrested a man on suspicion of the acid attack - but Ms Rathi's family told a newspaper they had lost faith in the police
'She put up a brave fight but eventually gave in to her injuries and infection. She left us after suffering a cardiac arrest.'
The family told the newspaper they had lost faith in the police, who claim a man they arrested over the attack had had a marriage proposal turned down by Ms Rathi.
The attack on Ms Rathi comes as acid attacks on Indian women increase with the crime used by men to intimidate and put them 'back in their place', according to campaigners. Campaigners told a newspaper that they are seeing two cases a week on average.
'The independence and autonomy of young women is seen as a threat,' Ranjana Kumari, a sociologist, told the Sunday Times.
'That's the kind of challenge that women are facing in India. A whole generation of young women are not willing to go by the traditional norms.'
Ms Kumari said there was a pattern of assaults on educated young women. Activist Pragya Singh, who was the victim of an acid attack by a former boyfriend in 2006, said the easy availability of concentrated acid in markets was contributing to the rise in reports of the crime.
Those convicted of acid attacks face a ten-year jail term under a law introduced in March following the death of a physiotherapy student who was gang-raped and murdered on a bus in Delhi in December.
Sociology professor Satish Deshpande told the Sunday Times that Indian men were finding it difficult to cope with emancipated women who were pursuing professional life outside the home.
'For men whose patriarchy is seen to be threatened and insecure, this new breed of women may be an unbearable provocation,' he said.

Marriage Tips for Women, Marriage Tips for Newly weds, Best Marriage Advice woman, female, Happily ever after Marriage, Funny Marriage tips for women, ladies, Indian woman

1. Remember who you are - Yes, you are a wife, but you are also an individual with your own interests and dreams. Retaining as much of ‘you’ as you can and not losing yourself entirely in the ‘we’ will help you keep your marriage fresh and exciting.

2. Do things together and do things separately - Have experiences that are yours as a couple and yours as an individual. Maybe you have a date night together as well as a girls’ night out for you and a poker night for him.

3. Focus on what you love about your husband - What you focus on expands, so if you concentrate only on his negative qualities, they’ll start to overtake your vision of him.

4. Accept your husband for who he is - Loving your husband exactly as he is, faults and all, can free you from a lot of pain and suffering caused by unrealistic expectations of who you think he should be. Nobody is perfect, and you inevitably do things that drive him nuts just like he does you. Besides, what you see as his faults may very well complement you and keep you balanced.

5. Keep your sexual relationship a priority - Sex is very important to men. They view it as a way to connect and be close with their partner. So make time for intimacy, and if problems in the bedroom crop up, address them.

6. Spend time together as a family - Research shows that the one thing that consistently makes us happy above all else is spending time with the people we love.

7. Communicate with your husband - Misunderstandings often stem from a lack of communication. By sharing how you feel, not only will you understand each other better, you can prevent anger and resentment from building up.

8. Get counseling if necessary – Marriage counselors, therapists and psychics can salvage troubled marriages and make working ones even better by giving you tools to strengthen your marriage and foster communication.

9. Don’t compare your marriage or your husband to others - What you see on the outside isn’t always what goes on behind closed doors. Maybe Brenda’s husband does the dishes every night, but he can’t relate to his children nearly as well as your husband can.

10. Avoid the temptation to create drama to ‘keep things exciting’ - You entered into a lifelong commitment with your husband, and life isn’t always action-packed and filled with craziness. Marriage might feel monotonous or even a little boring sometimes, and that’s okay. It’s still worth it.

11. Try to avoid being completely dependent financially - Though working while you have small children can be difficult, there are creative ways to make money that you may not think of at first glance, like teaching art or giving cooking or writing lessons to children. By contributing monetarily, you’ll give your self-esteem a boost as well as the family finances.

12. Be your husband’s biggest fan - You and your husband are a team. If you constantly complain about him to your friends, you weaken that bond and can start to forget that you’re both on the same side.

13. Don’t fight dirty - In the heat of the moment, you can say things you don’t mean. And even if you apologize afterward, your words will stick in your husband’s head. So keep low blows off the table, and argue with kindness and compassion as much as you can.

14. Continue thinking of yourself as a woman – You may get so caught up in the role of ‘Mom’, ‘chauffeur’ or ‘employee’ that you forget you are also a beautiful woman, with feminine powers and wisdom to draw from. Reveling in your femininity and taking time to feel good about your appearance can help you feel good in your marriage as well.

15. Realize that marriage isn’t always 50/50 - Sometimes your husband will need you to put in 75% of the effort, and other times, you’ll need him to put forth 90%. And isn’t that kind of the beauty of marriage, that you’ll always have someone to count on no matter what?
